Title: A Distributed Ontological World Model for Autonomous Multi Vehicle Operations
Date: Wed 20 May 2009
Time: 11:00
Location: EM G19-20
Speaker: Joel Cartwright
PhD student at OSL
Description: This seminar covers a distributed world model framework providing structured knowledge representation and exchange in support of collaborative multi-vehicle operations. An ontological knowledge representation using OWL is used, to allow generic storage of information at different levels of abstraction. The distributed nature ensures there is no central point of failure, and allows for isolated vehicle operation. Information exchange is targeted at the error-prone, low bandwidth underwater acoustic communications channel. Automatic retransmission and prioritised need-based exchange selection provides reliability and makes best use of the bandwidth available.
