Nessie IV swims to Portugal: Best Paper Award!
At the end of March, the Ocean Systems Lab has made a Portuguese expedition with two talks about one of its key activities: the Nessie IV AUV and the Student Autonomous Underwater Challenge - Europe.
The first talk was at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, Instituto Superior Tecnico (ISR/IST), in the framework of the ISR Seminars. OSL/HWU and ISR/IST has a long history of collaboration and they are now involved together in an active European Marie Curie Research Training Network - FREEsubNET. The visit was also very useful to discuss together about the network state, collaboration and important dates. More info available here.
The second talk was in the framework of the 10th IEEE Conference on Mobile Robots and Competitions. The international conference took place in Leiria, as the scientific opening of the Portuguese Robotics Festival. Team Leader Francesco Maurelli presented the vehicle approach to the challenging tasks of the SAUC-E competition, links to real tasks and future cooperative vehicle challenges.
The article presented was awarded as the Best Conference Paper. The award includes some cash prize and a publication in the robotica magazine, the main technical publication in Portugal in the field of Robotics and Automation.
